In 2004, BC Children's Hospital established the Centre for International Child Health to work with local and international partners to develop collaborative programs that advance child health throughout the world.
As the only children's hospital in Canada with a Centre for International Child Health, this pioneering endeavour will help us recruit the best and brightest child health specialists to our hospital and will provide opportunities for physicians, medical professionals and trainees from Canada and other countries to learn from one another. In its first year of operation, the Centre has proven just how quickly we can make a difference when we share our passion for helping sick children get better.
In May and November of 2004, a cardiac team from BCCH made its first visits to Children's Hospital of Fudan University in Shanghai. While providing hands-on training to Fudan medical staff, our cardiac team performed life-saving complex surgeries on 16 children with severe heart defects.
